It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beautiful daughter, Penny Kitchen, age 53 on January 23rd, 2017 in the QEII Hospital surrounded by her family and friends. At Penny’s request her body was donated to Dalhousie University for science. Penny was born in Halifax, England on January 24th, 1963. She is survived by her mom and dad, Lawrence and Dorothy Kitchen, brother Peter and his wife Lisa, sister Patricia (Phonchareon) and her husband Dang Phonchareon, five nieces and nephews, who she loved very much, Jason Phonchareon, Fiona Kitchen, Joshua Phonchareon, Finnian Kitchen and Grady Kitchen. She also has many relatives in Canada, US and the UK. Penny’s dog Peppy was very special to her. The family would like to thank Dr. Kelvin Young, her nurse Marsha and the other staff members of Cancer Care Nova Scotia and her dedicated personal care attendants for the excellent support and care that she received. Penny, you lived such a courageous and inspiring life! Despite the enormous challenges placed in front of you, the discrimination you faced, the heartache you felt ... you lived your life to the fullest and taught so many of us about love, laughter, dignity, faith, patience, perseverance and generosity. You will be missed dearly by your family and many, many friends.
